Reginald A. Sutton Jr.

Reginald A. Sutton Jr. is a dedicated and accomplished law enforcement professional with over 26 years of service in the Baltimore County Police Department. A proud U.S. Navy veteran and Desert Storm participant, Officer Sutton served his country for eight years before transitioning to civilian law enforcement. Prior to joining the Baltimore County Police Department, he served as a correctional officer for two and a half years in a neighboring jurisdiction. Officer Sutton holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Walden University and is a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated. During his distinguished career, Officer Sutton spent 16 years as a School Resource Officer (SRO) in the Woodlawn Precinct (Precinct 2), where he worked with students at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. His primary focus in this role was building and sustaining meaningful relationships with students. Living in close proximity to the community he served allowed Officer Sutton to positively engage with students both on and off duty, creating a lasting and impactful presence in their lives. His community involvement spans a wide array of events and initiatives, including Book Bag Giveaways, Shop with a Cop, Marathons, and Bike Races. He has delivered numerous anti-bullying presentations to church groups and schoolchildren and is a certified DARE officer. Officer Sutton takes great pride in being a Maryland Police and Corrections Training Commission Certified Instructor. This distinction enables him to teach at the Baltimore County Police Training Section. Since being assigned to the Training Section in August 2020, Officer Sutton has worked with the In-Service Training Team, delivering updated training to more than 1,900 officers annually to help them maintain their certification. He has played a lead role in the development and instruction of critical topics such as Police Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement Officers. Additionally, Officer Sutton has provided training to police recruits during POST and STOPS (scenario-based training) and has acted as a mentor to new officers. His expertise has also extended to training sessions for Maryland State legislators and local government officials on police use-of-force policies and decision-making processes. Currently, Officer Sutton is assigned to the Professional and Leadership Development Section of Training as a Coordinator. Officer Sutton also serves on the prestigious Baltimore County Police Department Crisis Negotiation Team. This role, performed in addition to his primary responsibilities, involves countless hours of rigorous training to ensure preparedness for high-stakes situations. His mission as a negotiator is centered on the preservation of life, with a strong commitment to de-escalating potentially dangerous situations and achieving peaceful outcomes. Reginald A.
